Finding Dota Stats

A highly refined search experience

Attention to detail is critical in Dota. As perhaps the most complex esport, players are required to intensively study the game to get ahead. So it’s only right that your stats resource puts just as much care into creating a truly intimate experience that never lets the details slip away.

Our release this week includes changes that can be felt across the entire STRATZ.com domain. We’ve made major changes to our App Bar, one of the most important foundational aspects of our site. It now follows you as you scroll, while blurring into the background to add a connection to the content, instead of simply taking up space.

The App Bar is also now themed to work seamlessly with both your dark and light themes, while connecting directly with the Highlights Bar, for those who keep it active. When you scroll down the page, the App Bar follows, leaving you with full access to the site no matter how far you’ve gone.

When it comes to navigation, the App Bar is king. It contains the most important links to travel across STRATZ.com, but perhaps most importantly, it holds the fastest means to going exactly where you know you want to go via the Quick Search.

The Quick Search on STRATZ has always been connected with the Search page, along with millions of players and billions of matches. However, this week the entire Search functionality and design has been taken to new heights.

The just-released Quick Search has been simplified and sped up to include exactly what you need, and none of what you don’t. The most common searches can be found instantly, without scroll or use of the more comprehensive new Search page. And now, for the first time, not only can you access the Quick Search from any scroll position on STRATZ.com via the new sticky App Bar, but you can also do it without ever touching your mouse.

Can you imagine having to click on Anti-Mage’s Blink ability before casting it in the middle of battle? Neither can we. Now, the entire Search experience can be accessed with hotkeys, using / to activate the Search from anywhere, and using either tab and shift+tab or your arrow keys to move around the results. Pressing enter or return will now take you directly to your result, or to the Search page to dig deeper if necessary.

We’re really excited about this new Search experience. More of our users rely on searching to get where they’re going than anything else, and that’s why we decided not to stop with just those updates. We also added both a Search Suggestions field, complete with your latest match, your last played hero, and your Guild, and a Search History with up to your last 5 selected search results for easy access to your favorite pages. You can toggle off your Search History on your updated Settings page if you’d like to keep your Suggestions active instead. Speaking of your Settings page…

The final big update this week is the completion of your overhauled Settings page. This page lets you control STRATZ’s advanced Follow system that many users have been making great use of. It contains the ability to get email notifications of Live Matches being actively played by your followed players [including a console command to watch it in-game], as well as lots of options to get detailed recaps from the matches of your friends and favorite players daily, weekly, and/or monthly. We’ve got big plans to extend this system in the future, but it’s already one of the many cool unique experiences you can have on STRATZ.

Think you’ve got what it takes to join the STRATZ team? We’re looking for a new Machine Learning Developer!
